Foiling the greetings cards.

I have found that the foiling has been slightly temperamental depending on what stock you use. You can see below the difference between the quality of the gold. The off white card has more texture to it than the smooth white paper, which i think makes it harder for the foil to stick the paper.

I spray painted an envelope to give it a silver metallic colour to reflect the foiled effected.

Cafe Wall Branding.

Cafe Wall Illusion. As part of the the perception brief, I created some design work based on the cafe wall illusion. So as another context for this brief I have looked into doing some branding based around cafes. As i was designing the brief I felt it could be the perfect branding for a cafe.

Signage.

Applying my illusion Prints to greeting cards.

These are the ambigram and cafe wall illusions put into the context of greeting cards. I think they have come out well. I did some embossing with the love you card which I think came out pretty well. It is a nice touch and is cheap! I did it by cutting out the shape from mount-board and using an embossing tool to push it down into the cut out. I am going to try this with the hello love cards as well, because the shapes are straight edged so it will be easy to cut out. I need to think about other ways of presenting the ambigrams other than greeting cards. The cafe wall illusions work better on a large scale so I need photograph them in the context of shop sale.

Cafe wall illusion.

I came across an illusion called the cafe wall illusion. The black and white squares are separated with a grey line. The grey line appears to be slanted, when infact it is perfectly straight. I liked this illusion and thought about using it as a basis for a typeface. This is the start of my development.
When you take the created typeface away from the grid it leaves you with a blurred feel to it which I think is effective.

Creating more ambigrams....

Hello//Lovely.

Happy//Bday

Hey//Bye

Ambigrams final pieces? Hate/Love & Love/You

It is quite hard to see how legible the words are when you are the one designing it. I have to continually ask people what it says. But it it is starting to come together now. I am going to print these off on postcards and see what peoples thoughts on legibility are.

Ambigrams.

I have altered what my perception brief is going to be about. I am going to focus on type design, and its context within illusions. Basically an extension of my magic brief but covering a larger topic area and looking into a variety of different 'illusions' or trickery with type.

Above is a start of an ambigram spelling out love and you. It needs some work, but I can see it coming together.

this scans above show me exploring the possibility of creating an 'ambigram font' so the letters read the same upside down. I need to think about where I am going with the project. I think it would be good to create a variety of ambigrams that could create good pieces in themselves but then could be applied to other contexts. So the I love you ambigram would work well as a valentines day card. Maybe it could be attached to a campaign about seeing things from both sides?

Percpetion flyer and Tutorial Prep.

So, I think the best way to go with the flyer is maybe to do a long thin one, as I want to keep it simple, and the type can do all the aesthetic work, the thin shape of the flyer fits in with the concept of lines too.

Preparation for Tutorial.

1. Final pieces for the four briefs so far.
ISTD Connections.
ISTD Magic.
HG Wells.
RSA Stamp Brief.

2. New Brief. Perception, branding and promotional material for an exhibiton. Possible to hold a real exhibition? Where? Another brief?
