As part of my type library brief I created some screen printed postcards. I think the colours here are quite effective, although I have decided to use this brief for my end of year show so I am going to leave this now until after we submit for fmp.

Type Library.

I am doing this brief as a one weeker, as it seems a shame to to have a load of typeface and not to really be doing anything with them. I am have called this brief type library as I have decided to just focus on different print qualities and techniques and create a set of postcards and a booklet of my letterforms. I am doing this postcards in preparation for screen print.

Tom & Ting part 2

This is not my usual style. But this is the invitation I am working on for tom & ting. I wanted it to match with the save the date but to move away from the lantern theme. So i picked up on the detail on one of the lanterns of the birds on a branch. Ting is also having a bird cage at the wedding to display the table placements so this links quite nicely.
I am going to print this off now onto some off white paper/card and see how foiling the illustration in gold goes.

After getting some feedback from Ting, I have developed the illustration and invite a bit further. I have organized and arranged the type better, and have changed the birds to be similar to the ones on the save the date. I also added the logo onto it. I originally had the idea of it being like a pear tree, so i added a few pairs and had the logo hanging off the tree.

Save the date invite..

I am creating wedding invites for Thomas & Ting. I am unsure if this is going to be part of my submission but thought I might as well put it up here anyway. They were really happy with this design which I was really please about. They wanted the theme of lanterns, which I think works really well - it is elegant and not tacky or cliche. They like the idea of having a 'logo' - something that was personalized and could be applied to other things throughout the wedding. Ting gave me the idea of using the two T's to create a symbol like the pie sign but still making it obvious that is was two T's. Overall, a sucessful piece and Ting is a good 'client' to work for!

End of Year show Concept...

Concept: Time.

Looking at basing the designs on the idea of time, how the count down of out year is towards this show.

Exploring different layouts. Focusing on the layout of relating to a clock more now. Needs more work, but it is coming together now. It is quite an obvious concept, but it is also simple and direct.

Including as much information as possible, this design works better with lots of information included. It looks busier and more aesthetically pleasing.

Simplifying the concept further. Taking out the weeks/days/minutes and just using the necessary information to show my concept of time. I quite like this one, but it comes across as just a clever layout rather than being on the concept of time.

Creating a similar effect to the Sky Hd logo with the Wahie logo.

Thursday, 25 February 2010

I like the visual appeal of these designs. But after looking back over the previous winning entry - It might be a good idea to do something a bit more conceptual. I need to think about having a name for the show, and then basing a design around this. Being clever will beat aesthetically appealing I think.

Adding Shadowing/effects.

This style of logo is something I do not usually work on, but Will wanted something to make the logo seem less flat. So i have had a good at using some of the effects on Illustrator. I usually like to stay away from these, but these logos have turned out pretty well.
