I feel 3rd year I have really settled into the course and found my practice, I just wish I had got into it sooner and maybe I could be leaving with that bit more confidence.
As part of this evaluation I am going to discuss what I feel has been sucessfull, what I wish I could have done, or what I feel i should have done.
Firstly, the sucesses. I feel all of my briefs have worked to a certain extend. The two briefs that stand out to me are the connetions brief and the perception brief. They have allowed me to experiment with typography to a different level, in more of a clever way.
Firstly, the connections brief. What i enojoyed about this brief is creating something that works visually as a piece as art instead of just being a typeface that maybe only typographers could relate to. Paper Scissor Stone have agreed to sell this piece in their shop. Throughtout this brief I have experimented with scale, stock and finishing. Scale has been explored to the maximum I feel in this brief, from size A0 to A6 exploring different contexts to use these different sizes. The images within this brief were pretty time consuming, as it took me roughly 8 hours to produce the ampersand. I got quicker with each punctuation mark, but If I had the time I would have liked to explore many more - I just picked how the ones that would work with being filled with different words relating to the punctuation mark. I used screen printing within this module a fair bit which I am happy about, as I have not found it necessary to use the form of printing until now - for the use of printing onto materials and to create vibrant colours.
I think the ambigrams within the perception brief epitomize what I am about. Creating clever, conceptual design focussed on typography and applied to a working context. I enjoyed being able to draw letters all day but with a purpose and straightforward end product of the aim of getting it to read two ways. I enjoyed the process of developing and improving and testing, but still getting a balance of it looking good.
I have enjoyed all my briefs but those are the two that have stood out to me. I feel I could have done alot more with my look book brief, but I took this on near to the end and wanted to do it as a quick brief. I enjoyed working with good quality photographs and my own typography, I liked the mixture of the two and it was a contrast to my usual work of just typography.
In regards to to time management I feel I have continually improved on these skills, I have been suffering from a throat infection this last week but I think because I have managed my time well I did not have too much left to do, however I feel my presentation of my boards has suffered slightly for this reason but there was not much I could do about this. I have kept my project filed up everyday by writing lists of what I need to do.
I feel I have used my blog sucessfully and have continually updated with my development and evaluations. I think I may keep up my blog in future as it is such a useful tool for keep a documentation of things you may usually forget about and move on and it is something you can access where ever you are.
I finish this module feeling confident in knowing how to tackle briefs in my own way. I have perfected my own way of working and I can see how it can work in an working enviroment. The only regret I have is wishing I had the energy in this final week to push the briefs that little but futher and be more critical about the presentation on my boards.
