The first selection are a bit more edgy that the more recent designs. I liked these ones on paper more and thought the idea of fitting the words into the W could look quite interesting. I am unsure having gone onto create more sophisticated designs.

More sophisticated design based around Shapes - Will mentioned that he would like the logo to work on its own without the Words. So first of all i went about creating Abstract shapes based on the W. I think these have quite a corporate feel to them, and unsure if it suits the brand.
Personally, I think these are my favourite designs so far. I wanted to create the idea of shapes within the logo but did not want it to be random. So i constructed shapes based on the shapes of the typeface. I developed this further so that the shapes were based around that relating to film - the triangle for play and the square for stop etc. You can then see how the elements can work in different ways - the text with the symbols above, separate or overlapping.
Seeing how it works in a serif font - I quite like this looking back at it now. But there is no point me making any decisions without showing Will.
The logo I think is the best - but this is personal opinion, Will may like the other ones and I may change mind after moving away from them all for a few hours.
I like how the logo can work in many different ways. I think it works best with the symbols above the text but in some contexts just the symbols will look better. The flexibility of the logo will come in useful I think. I now need to do a few colour Variations.
Will sent me an image of something that he had in mind, so I am going to have a go at doing that, as I have gone off on a bit of tangent at the moment.
Here you can see I have had a stab at Will's Idea - mine seems to have taken on the shape of a flower now though - but that follows on the Hawaiian origin of the name. This design is less conceptual but might be what he wants.
I am going to see which ones Will prefers now before working any further.
He liked the 'ABSTRACT W' logos, and he pointed out that they look a bit like spotlights, so I have been experimenting with those ideas a bit more..
Colour Variations:

After having a few days break from working on this logo Will has decided that he want more of the Hawaiian theme in the logo. I also feel the logo needs to be less 'flat.' It is more of a personal taste that I do not like using effects on logos as I think this can make them appear slightly tacky. But I think if I use the effect correctly I can create a more professional looking logo without the tacky look.
I think the way to go with this is the use of gradients.
I quite like the 'line' typeface. It breaks it down a bit more, it felt a bit too bold I think before. And this way the concentration seems to be on the name a bit more. I hope he likes this one.
